Fundraising For Nepal

Hi, I'm Emily Cone. For the fall semester of my senior year, I have been given a great opportunity to study and travel in Nepal. I'll there for four and a half months with my father, Matt. My semester abroad curriculum includes Buddhism teachings, reflections on books I've read, a photography project, an art class, and other educational projects, as well as my Everest Base Camp Fundraiser that will directly benefit the children and families I meet in Nepal. Since my first adventure in Nepal is to complete the almost three week trek to the Everest Base Camp, I have named my fundraiser after it as a sponsorship project. I would greatly appreciate any support you can provide to this effort...even $5 helps! (Donate here)

One part of my plan is to investigate different charitable organizations working with the issues that I am interested in like education, domestic necessities and micro-financing. I will evaluate the need, their process, etc. and donate my time as a volunteer and/or some of the money that I have raised here. My main focus is helping the children and with this in mind, I have decided to make my first donations to
Click Click Program and Room To Read. The Click Click program provides education and counseling to disabled children in Nepal. The Room To Read project supports girls to complete secondary school. Both these fundraisers work towards key issues I'm interested in and I would love to support them with your help! I am committed but not limited to helping these two programs.

Another part of my project is to do my own search for need on a more personal and independent level. There are several needs in the world that are overlooked and as I encounter these needs, I want to be able to help and provide direct support to these hidden problems. For example, there may be a need for a communal telephone for a village and I could donate money to help them pay for it, or I could pay for a child's bicycle so they could get to school.

I will be writing about my experiences on this blog for your viewing to see what your support has done. This project is a key part of my semester abroad from my high school. Once my trip starts, I'll be posting here regularly about what I encounter. If you have any questions, feel free to comment here or email me at emily.cone@gmail.com
